The Chettinad Dental College and Research Institute was established in the year 2007 by the Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Charitable trust. It has an annual admission capacity of 100 students in the BDS course as permitted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; and approved by the Dental Council of India.

The Chettinad Dental College & Research Institute is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Guindy, Chennai.
The Chettinad Dental College and Research Institute is located in the Chettinad Health City in Kelambakkam on the Old Mahabalipuram road, otherwise known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai or the IT Highway. This stretch of road from Madhya Kailash temple on Sardar Patel road to Chettinad Health City is a 20km long toll road, with numerous hubs of the IT industry and several multinational companies located along it. It is one of the fastest growing roads in Asia, with at least 50 educational institutions and many residential complexes in the vicinity. The area between this OMR Road and GST Road is the area marked for the future expansion of Chennai.

Chettinad Health City is easily accessible from OMR road and also through GST road and the Vandalur Kelambakkam road. The gates off the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) allow access to the Dental Outpatient block directly. The other three gates are located on the Vandalur Kelambakkam road – the first gate leads to the Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute; the second gate leads to a multicuisine food court and the Sigappi Achi Convention centre; and the third gate leads to hostels, a mini -Auditorium, Staff Quarters, and playgrounds.

This affordable and comprehensive state-of-the-art medical facility so close to a metropolitan city as well as accessible to the rural population of Kanchipuram district, serves all sections of society. The Ambulance Service on the number 105757 is busy on the two adjacent highways doing its duty to save lives. With a mixed patient crowd seeking both medical and dental treatment, the Chettinad Dental College and Research Centre adds a new dimension to oral health care in India.
